Here are some comments we received from our summer, 2001 group.
"The strongest (aspect of the Trinity REU Program) is the level of
interest and involvement of the professors. Within
my project our advisor was very available and approachable, and I heard
similar reactions from students in other groups.
They (the profs) made an effort to get involved with us socially as well
which encouraged us all around..... Overall this has
been as extremely good experience both socially and research wise!"
"I felt that the strongest aspect (of the Trinity REU Program) was the
personalities of the Profs. They were all very friendly
and helpful. They were all very active with the students and interacted
well. Because of this, many of the students had a very enjoyable
experience .... Overall I really enjoyed it!"
"I had an excellent advisor for my REU project, and so I feel that one
of the strongest aspects (of the Trinity REU Program) was the actual
research and the experience I gained both learning about the topic of
research and putting together a suitable paper ...
I enjoyed the project greatly, appreciated the fairly large group of
students, and the help of the faculty."
"(My) advisor was experienced and let the students migrate to a topic
they enjoyed and did not force topics upon us. (He/She) was an advisor
and not a boss .... (There were) good weekend activities that brought
the group together ... I had a blast."
"My advisor was really good. I especially liked the balance between the
amount of leading that he did and the directions we were
able to pursue on our own. The topic for the project was also very
good, in that it was appropriate for us. I also enjoyed the sporting
activities, especially the ones organized by the faculty, such as
Saturday morning football and Tuesday morning ultimate."
"Student-Professor interaction was excellent all the way through .... I
really think this program can be among the best in the country. I have
heard of many REU programs that are poorly managed and the Professors
are indifferent. In this one, that was definitely not the case.... The
program is well organized and conscientiously maintained."
"I think that the best thing about the REU program was the fact that I
had to learn things that were completely new to me. The material was
challenging and that was what excited me. I also LOVE that fact that we
are working on theorems that haven't been around for years. I loved the
way the program was set up and I can't think of any weaknesses... The
Trinity REU Program was the most stimulating and worthwhile experience I
have ever had. What a wonderful way to make use of a summer that would
otherwise be full of boredom. I LOVED IT!!!"
"This experience ranks in the top 5 best experiences of my life. I thank everybody involved in making such a program possible."
