Research Experiences for Undergraduates   (REU)
Sponsored by the National Science Foundation and
      Trinity University Mathematics

Here are some comments we received from our summer, 2002 group.

The mathematical aspects of the program were great.... My project director was great and fun to work with. I'm very happy with our results and with my summer ... Great Program! I had fun and learned a lot.

The professors at Trinity were knowledgeable and easy to be around. I greatly appreciate the efforts they made to be more than just research advisors ... Good Program.

... both my project advisor and my colleague were excellent. I enjoyed working with them. ... all of the faculty were very considerate hosts .... In short, all were generous with their time and cared about the well-being of the students.

I loved the warm, friendly atmosphere. I enjoyed the social events planned. The professors all made me feel welcome and special .... This was a very rewarding experience. I improved my creative, analytical and proof skills ten-fold. I learned a lot about other fascinating areas of math. I was surrounded by extremely intelligent people.

The professors were excellent. They are all enthusiastic and willing to help. Moreover, the professors all seem concerned and interested in the students as people, not just math students. As a result, the environment was comfortable to work in .... I feel like I've learned a lot and met interesting people, which is why I wanted to do an REU in the first place.

The strongest aspect of the program was certainly the faculty. My Project Director and his wife met me at the airport, took me to the grocery store and even lent us a vacuum. All the other professors also made it a point to talk with the students and were genuinely interested in discussing project, grad school, problems with the program, etc. I have felt personally welcome everytime I've entered the math building and that's a rare experience for most undergraduates .... I had a wonderful experience - really a chance to excel.

It's been great here .... Mathematically, I have grown and learned so much, the experience was invaluable. I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else this summer, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The program is one of the best things I've been lucky enough to be part of, so thank you to everyone involved in making it happen.

The strongest aspect was definitely the willingness of the faculty to provide help with our projects. They were truly interested in what we had to say and were enthusiastic about the results we came up with. Besides this, they are very friendly people and I felt comfortable working with them from the first week onward.

The strongest aspects of the program are the interactions between the students and professors, the cooperative atmosphere, and mathematical content .... I really enjoyed the research experience. I would highly recommend the REU to others.
