E. CABRAL BALREIRA, Assistant Professor, Ph.D., Notre Dame (2006) Dr. Balreira joined Trinity in 2006. His research lies in the interplay between Geometry, Topology, and Nonlinear Analysis. He will teach accross the curriculum, with a special interest in analysis. RYAN C. DAILEDA, Associate Professor, Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles (2004) Dr. Daileda joined Trinity in 2006 and brought with him an expertise in analytic and algebraic number theory. His recent course offerings include introduction to abstract mathematics, modern algebra, number theory, and calculus. SABER ELAYDI, Professor, Ph.D., University of Missouri (1978). Dr. Elaydi came to Trinity in 1989. Dr. Elaydi's areas of research are dynamical systems and differential equations. His recent teaching has been in differential equations, applied mathematics, real analysis, chaos theory, and calculus. He is the department's current chairperson. ROBERTO HASFURA-BUENAGA, Associate Professor, Ph.D., Wesleyan University (1990). Dr. Hasfura came to Trinity in 1990. Dr. Hasfura has special expertise in ergodic theory. His teaching assignments have recently been in complex variables, numerical analysis, topology, geometry,and calculus. NATASA MACURA, Associate Professor, Ph.D., The University of Utah (1998). Dr. Macura joined Trinity University in 2003. Her area of expertise is geometric group theory, a young area of theoretical mathematics that studies geometric properties of infinite groups. She is also interested in applications of mathematics, especially topology and geometry, in biology. BRIAN K. MICELI, Assistant Professor, Ph.D., University of California, San Diego (2006). Dr. Miceli joined Trinity University Mathematics in 2006, immediately following the completion of his Ph.D in combinatorics. He specializes in rook theory. He will teach accross the curriculum and especially enjoys teaching combinatorics. PETER OLOFSSON, Professor and Chair, Ph.D., University of Goteborg (1994). Dr. Olofsson was welcomed into our faculty in 2007 as an expert in probability theory, with prior positions at Rice and Tulane. He has a wide range of interests and will teach probability and statistics as well as other standard courses. DIANE G. SAPHIRE, Assistant Vice President for Information Resources and Administration, Ph.D., Carnegie-Mellon University (1983). Dr. Saphire joined the Mathematics Faculty in 1983. Dr. Saphire's general area if expertise is statistics with special emphasis on sample surveys. Her teaching duties include statistics and calculus.
Other Faculty AffiliatesDONALD F. BAILEY, Professor (Retired, 2001) Ph.D., Vanderbilt University (1965). Dr. Bailey came to Trinity in 1983. Dr. Bailey's research interests lie in number theory. RICHARD A. COOPER, Assistant Professor (Retired, 2007) Ph.D., Texas Tech University (1970) Dr. Cooper came to Trinity in 1970. Dr. Cooper's interest is in statistical computing, mathematical modeling and mathematical biology. His teaching assignments have been in statistics, numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, and calculus. ALLEN HOLDER, Associate Professor, Ph.D., University of Colorado at Denver (1999) Allen Holder joined the Mathematics Department in 1999, and is currently at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Dr. Holder's interests lie in the area of optimization, particulary in how it applies to economics and health care. He teaches across the curriculum. KENNETH E. HUMMEL, Assistant Professor (Retired, 2001) Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin (1970). Dr. Hummel retired in 2000 and came to Trinity in 1969. Dr. Hummel's recent interests are set theory and logic. PHOEBE T. JUDSON, Associate Professor. (Retired May 1999) Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin (1988). Dr. Judson joined the Mathematics Faculty in 1969. Dr. Judson's interests are in mathematics education and particularly the educational use of computer algebra. Her teaching area has been calculus and the calculus laboratory. DARWIN E. PEEK, Associate Professor. (Retired May 1999), Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin (1966). Dr. Peek joined the Mathematics Faculty in 1966. Dr. Peek's expertise is in real analysis in general and Baire functions in particular. Dr. Peek taught real analysis, linear algebra, and calculus. WILLIAM F. TRENCH, Andrew G. Cowles Distinguished Professor of Mathematics. (Retired, 1997), Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania (1958). Dr. Trench left Drexel University to join the Trinity University Mathematics Department in 1986. Now living in New Hampshire with his wife Beverly, he continues to work in mathematics and has published three books and numerous research papers on differential equations, difference equations, and linear algebra since retiring. He recently wrote an analysis textbook, which can be downloaded for free at his web page.
